Most people, like me, would have had no clue where Delitzsch would be, or why it was important.
Now, like most citys in Saxony, there is a Nazi Problem. Most people do not know this, but Saxony is known for harboring a disturbing ammount of Neo Nazis, and being generally as inviting to foreigners as rednecks are to city folk.
But this week, they had taken the cake.
See, there happens to be some unfortunate construct called " National Befreite Zonen", zones in Germany that would qualify as " currently being occupied by fascist terrorists". Delitzsch is one of these.
In one of these zones, you have something like an inofficial presence of these neo Nazis, officially and inofficially supported by the local police and gouvernment, and you are less likely to find foreigners, anti fascists, and the lot.
Now, it gets interesting:
You have in that city a concert of a few ska bands, and a DJ. In my personal opinion, it is some kind of music, and while I do not happen to enjoy it, I do realise it is there.
A few known Neo Nazis did not think that way.
They went to the party, drove up, and openly attacked the person who organised this concert, his girlfriend, and two friends. Apparently, that was a mistake, as they used self defence in a most interesting way, beat back the attack, and put one of the Neo Nazis in the hospital. This bloke is said to likely loose one of his eyes as a result of the injuries.
Now, you would think the community would congratulate the man for standing his ground, and defending what he stands for. But far from it.
Last Thursday, he was invited to city hall, where the officials made a very interestingt order, for restoring public peace.
He was prohibited from holding concerts where neo nazi Attendance was not allowed. Also, they told him that if there was no counter culture directed towards the neo nazi scene, there would be no violence emerging.
Also, for a demonstration against this percieved injustice, there is a cataloge of demands from the city that is aimed at preventing the demonstration, in the interest of "maintaining the public peace"
Now, I see three possibilitys why that is happening, which of course is just my personal opinion.
1. The Officials in Delitzsch are actually unaware of the growing situation in Germany, where the NPD, the nationalistic party of germany, is about to be outlawed as a terrorist organisation, where the NSU, the national socialist underground, is growing terror cells with the aid of the german "Verfassungsschutz", an intelligence service for the protection of the constitution, and about the growing theories of extremism, or "Extremismustheorien", where the fascist forces and the leftist forces who are usually fighting the neo nazis are put on the same position. Then, there is only one solution for that. Get the entire city together, and read the newspapers.
2. The police are aware that there is a neo nazi problem ( according to german blogs, at least during the 20 year reign of the local CDU, there have been reports of a stroing neo nazi presence in the area), bvut they think it will go away if they are not provoked.
Then, I only offer my condolonces to the elected officials, and hope that they remain in office long enough to see the fruits of their labour.
3. The officials of the city are actually aware of the problem, but decide to not provoke the nazis, either out of fear, or out of admiration. For the first case, take a look at your current behaviour. you are catering to a terrorist organisation out of fear that they might do something. If that is the case, please, come to your senses. Get the police, traiuned attack weasels, and hound these browns out of town.
Or, if you admire them, well, buy the ticket take the ride. Don't come crying if it does not turn out like you wanted it to.
My wishes are with all of the peacefull people in town, who see themself between the fronts of the lefts and the rights. Stand your ground, watch, remain peacefull, and think really carefully about what you will do next election time.
Your vote is the mightiest weapüon of all.
And in the sense of gentlemanly behaviour:
Stand your ground, and wear stable shoes. And if you are a foreigner, researchj No-Go Zones. I would strongly advise to make Delitzsch one.
A gentlemans look at worldly events that get too little attention otherwise, and how and why to drop buckets of hate on them.
